Generally these would be from stock coloured caps held in stock which can be personalised and delivered quickly If you are looking for larger quantities and have a longer lead time available to you it makes more sense to get the caps made completely to your own design at source &ndash; often China or Korea. In these instances it is fun to really go to town and personalise all aspects of the caps from the basic head piece to the peak, the lining, label and adjuster at the back. Your imagination is the only limit really.

On a first order for any personalise caps, what are known as origination charges are incurred. If the order is for a one off event the origination makes up a significant part of the price of the caps but the majority of organisations place repeat orders on a regular basis which means that when amortised over all the caps ordered the origination costs are negligible.

Origination charges for embroidered caps are based on the number of stitches in the design. This means the size of the logo rather than the number of colours affects the price. For printing there is generally a screen charge for each colour involved so a single colour print would be a considerably cheaper option than say a cap printed in 3 colours. Most people like their caps to be personalised on the front but side logos and logos on the back are becoming more popular as people get more adventurous. The most popular fabrics for caps these days tend to be cotton, either brushed or twill. A fabric called Wool Melton used to also be popular but seems to have fallen from favour lately.

With all of us becoming much more aware of our affect on the environment caps are also now being made up from recycled water bottles and other weird and wonderful things. Baseball caps usually come in 2 basic sizes &ndash; adult or children. Both types have adjustable fasteners at the back. These can be either in the form of plastic snap popper, sliders or sometimes the fabric is just ruched with elastic that expands to allow a snug but comfortable fit.

A recent industry survey showed that of those people who owned a promotional item over 30% of them had a baseball cap. In our everyday lives we can decrease carbon emissions by driving less, recycle our cardboard, plastic, metal, glass and other recyclable materials, turn off lights when leaving a room, and giving away unwanted items to other people using websites such as Freecycle.

But what can we do business wise?? Well, the first thing you could possibly do is cut down on your paper usage, do you really, really need to print out that email for instance?&nbsp;However, if you do use a lot of paper at work and throw a lot away then at least shred it for use as packaging.

However, it&rsquo;s not just about being environmentally friendly in the office.&nbsp;How can you carry this message through to all of your staff and clients and beyond?&nbsp;One answer is by using environmentally friendly manufactured items.

The world of environmentally friendly merchandise is quite a minefield.&nbsp;How do you know that you are really ordering the right thing?

There are different ways that products can be produced.

Whilst you are ordering goods made from recycled plastic, at the end of the day it is still plastic and defeats the object of being environmentally friendly.

3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Recyclable products are in a totally different category.&nbsp;The goods themselves can be imported from abroad and made from normal materials.&nbsp;The main benefits of these items is that they can be used again and again.&nbsp;For instance, a nylon drawstring rucksack can be classed as recyclable as it can be re-used more than a standard polythene bag which will probably split after a few uses and get thrown into landfill.

4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Biodegradable products are an excellent way of helping the environment.&nbsp;Not only are they produced from natural materials like corn starch BUT they are totally biodegradable by sunlight within a few short months.&nbsp;MUCH better than a standard polythene bag that can hang around for hundreds of years.

To be truly environmentally friendly when ordering these products you need to consider the material the item is produced from, the Country that it is produced in and what happens to it once it has been discarded.

Sometimes truly environmentally friendly products can be a little more expensive than normal items and also sometimes the choice is not as wide but can we really afford to think of the pennies now and continue to ruin our planet with bad choices?
